There are many misconceptions when it comes to shopping with an independent dealer for a new lawnmower, chainsaw or hedge trimmer. Whilst you may think you are getting a cheaper deal online, once you factor in delivery and service you are likely to be worse off.

Expertise

You can’t underestimate the advice and expertise that your local dealer can provide you. They live and breathe the products they sell and will know exactly what you need, for your price range. Whilst there is little flexibility when shopping at bigger stores, a local dealer will go above and beyond (within reasonable boundaries) to help you make a purchase.

Repairs and servicing

Independent dealers will be able to fix almost anything! If they don’t stock the part they’ll be able to source it or in many instances they will be able to use an alternative that they know will work, for a fraction of the cost.

Pricing

It’s a misconception that shopping online is cheaper. You are likely to get an even greater deal at an independent. Many will price match and you don’t have to pay for delivery – if you are local enough, you’ll probably get your item delivered straight to you too. And, unlike buying from a big chain store, they are likely to get your new lawnmower or whatever piece of machinery all set up ready for you, so all you need to do is press start. You’ll also get a wealth of free advice at the end of the phone if something is playing up or if you need any support.  

Friendliness

We obviously can’t promise friendliness but we are pretty sure that having someone that recognises you and knows what you bought last time goes a long way! By starting a relationship with your local dealer you are beginning a relationship that could last a lifetime. They will remember you and what you’ve bought and will be able to advise on any upgrades or repairs that you might need.

When shopping with a local dealer you are also keeping money in the local economy and supporting jobs in the area. As more and more independent businesses struggle, it’s crucial to support and shop local. We want to have thriving villages and towns and the social interaction it affords is so important. Independents are often family owned businesses that have stood the test of time, we need to ensure we keep them going!
